How to dress just before autumn
September arrives and suddenly, we don't know what to wear anymore.
In the morning, you're freezing. At midday, you're hot. In the evening, you regret not bringing a jacket. In short, the temperature does pretty much what it wants.
But there's no need to pull out your heavy coat and boots just yet. There are plenty of ways to start giving your outfits a touch of autumn while staying comfortable.
Keep your summer clothes
No need to put away your dresses and camisoles as soon as September begins.
A little dress with a denim jacket? Yes.
A camisole with jeans and an open shirt? Yes, again.
Even your favorite summer skirts can continue to do their job for a few weeks.
It's just a matter of wearing them with slightly warmer pieces.
The little jacket that saves the day
This is the perfect time to bring out your light jackets. A denim jacket, a bomber jacket, a cardigan, a thick shirt, or an old blazer found in a thrift store can completely transform an outfit.
And as a bonus: you can take it off as soon as the sun decides to do its job.
Jeans are back
After spending the summer in shorts, we're slowly starting to bring out our jeans again.
No need to choose the warmest pants in your wardrobe. A slightly loose pair of jeans with a t-shirt and a light jacket is pretty much the perfect combo for September.
And if you want to keep your summer look a little longer, wear it with light shoes or your favorite sneakers.
Shirts: really practical
A light shirt is kind of the magic piece of this period. You can wear it open over a t-shirt or camisole, tie it at the waist or simply put it on when it starts to get chilly.
And as for thrift stores, it's fun because you can find all sorts of colors and patterns that you don't necessarily see everywhere. Checks, stripes, denim, funky prints… pick the one that suits you.
Start bringing out your favorite sweaters
We're not talking about heavy knits that keep you warm until March just yet. For now, we're bringing out crewnecks, light cardigans, and lightweight sweaters. They're perfect for those days when you want to start getting a little taste of autumn without ending up sweating on the bus.
And the shoes?
We're not quite ready for boots yet. Sneakers, loafers, closed shoes, and even some sandals can still work perfectly well. The idea is simply to start making the transition gradually. No need to go from "beach day" to "full autumn" in 24 hours.
The trick: mix summer and autumn
This is probably our favorite part. You can keep your summer dress and add a jacket. Wear a camisole with jeans. Put a cardigan over a short skirt. Pull out a vintage shirt with your favorite summer outfit.
You don't need to completely change your wardrobe. A few simple changes and your look will already start to transform. And Honestly, that's often where the best outfits end up.
So enjoy your summer clothes a little longer, start slowly bringing out your autumn pieces and above all, dress according to the temperature.
Because even though we're really looking forward to cozy sweaters and pumpkin lattes… we don't have to be warm to pretend that autumn has already arrived. 🎃
